You can buy NAD+ from three places, which is the whole answer to where to buy NAD+: a research-supply vendor, an IV clinic, or the supplement shelf. Those three routes are not the same purchase: a research-supply vendor sells lyophilized powder at $75–$150 per 500 mg vial, labeled for laboratory use and requiring no prescription. An IV clinic bills $500–$1,500 a session, of which only about $150 is material. The supplement shelf sells NMN or NR, where nearly all the human trial data sits.

The one-line version. No pharmacy stocks NAD+ as an approved drug, so there's no prescription to write for it. What you're choosing between is a lab reagent, a clinic infusion compounded to order, and an over-the-counter precursor. We'd read the evidence base before the price list.

Where can you buy NAD+?

You can buy NAD+ from a research-supply vendor, from an IV clinic, or as an oral precursor off a supplement shelf. No pharmacy dispenses it, because no approved NAD+ drug exists to prescribe. NAD+ has more routes than most compounds here only because it's a small molecule rather than a drug.

What each route can't tell you. The IV route has zero randomized trials behind the uses it's sold for: addiction, senescence, cognition. Oral NMN and NR have reported modest biomarker effects, with thin long-term outcome data. The research-supply route has no regulated batch testing, no physician oversight, and isn't intended for human use at all.

The identity check that separates this order from a cheaper precursor is the CAS number on the certificate: 53-84-9 is NAD+ itself, while 1094-61-7 is NMN — a different molecule at a different price, and the substitution is invisible on a label.

What is NAD+, and what does it do?

NAD+ is short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a cofactor every living cell uses to run its metabolism. It carries electrons in cellular respiration. It feeds the sirtuin enzymes SIRT1 through SIRT7, and the PARP enzymes that repair damaged DNA.

It also gets chewed up by an enzyme called CD38, which becomes more active with age, as Covarrubias and colleagues set out in 2021.

Here's the wrinkle you should know about before you spend anything. NAD+ levels fall with age, which is what fuels the whole "NAD+ boosting" market. But the published human trial evidence isn't on NAD+ itself. It's on the two oral precursors, NMN and NR.

The 2023 GeroScience dose-response trial randomized 80 middle-aged adults to placebo, 300, 600, or 900 mg NMN for 60 days. Blood NAD+ rose significantly in every NMN group, Yi and colleagues reported. That's the molecule with the trial data behind it. Not the infusion the clinics sell.

How do you verify NAD+ before you buy?

Four checks decide whether a NAD+ vial is what its label says: molecular identity against NMN and NR, the physical form, the purity threshold, and the IV-clinic markup. The standard eight vendor criteria all apply on top, but these four bite harder on a cofactor than on a peptide.

1. NAD+ vs NMN vs NR: molecular identity verification

This is the first thing to settle, before price. The three molecules are not interchangeable:

Some vendors brand an NMN or NR product as an "NAD+ supplement" in the marketing copy while the ingredient line says NMN. Mass spectrometry settles it. NAD+ reads at [M+H]+ 664.4, NMN at 335.2, NR at 256.2. They're hundreds of daltons apart, so the test isn't a judgment call.

2. Form: lyophilized, light-protected, frozen

NAD+ falls apart in solution. The chemical bonds hydrolyze, light degrades it, and oxygen oxidizes it. The stable shipping form is freeze-dried powder, protected from light, held at −20°C.

Pre-mixed NAD+ shipped at room temperature reaches you at a concentration nobody can state. Nasal sprays and sublingual lozenges add a worse problem. NAD+ is a big polar molecule, and no published study has validated either route.

3. Purity threshold: ≥99% HPLC, not ≥98%

Cofactor-grade standards are tighter than peptide standards. Where ≥98% is the peptide benchmark, ≥99% HPLC is the cofactor one. Below 95%, you're likely holding degradation byproducts: nicotinamide, ADP-ribose and ADP, all of which will confound an experiment.

4. The IV-clinic markup, decoded

Third-party tested NAD+ runs $75–$150 per 500 mg vial. The $1,000 clinic price is real, but the material is a small slice of it. A 1,000 mg infusion uses roughly $150 of NAD+.

What does NAD+ cost in 2026?

NAD+ costs $75–$150 per 500 mg vial from a research vendor, about $60–$80 a month as an oral precursor, and $500–$1,500 per IV clinic session. Pricing swings wider than it does for peptides, because those three routes sell genuinely different things.

Below $30 per 500 mg vial, you're most likely looking at partial degradation, underdosing, or NMN rebranded at NAD+ pricing. Above $0.40 per mg, you're paying retail markup rather than synthesis cost.

Is NAD+ legal to buy?

NAD+ is legal to buy in the US and isn't a controlled substance. It's a coenzyme present in every living cell. The regulatory status still splits three ways, one per route, and only the research route has a clean answer.

What we’re watching

Three things will move the NAD+ market over 2026–2027. First, whether any randomized, blinded, sham-controlled IV NAD+ trial ever publishes for the indications clinics market it for. That absence is why the IV route stays contested.

Second, the FDA's position on NMN. The 2022 rejection blocked the dietary-supplement path, but the question could reopen if pharmaceutical NMN trials reach Phase III.

Third, the pipeline pairing oral NMN with senolytics, the drugs that clear damaged cells. Single-agent NMN shows modest effects. We'd expect combinations to be where any larger signal shows up.
