Pinealon benefits

Pinealon: every benefit on a vendor page can be traced to one of three places. A mechanism paper written by the peptide's own inventor, a mouse study of a different peptide, or nothing at all.

Search Pinealon benefits and you get memory, antioxidant defense, and brain aging. PubMed lists 3 papers on Pinealon for 2020–2026, and 1 of those three is by the lab that invented it.

The short answer. PubMed returns 3 papers for Pinealon across 2020-2026, and 1 is from the lab that created it.

Pinealon is a synthetic peptide of 3 amino acids. PubMed lists 3 papers from 2020 to 2026. One of those three is by its own inventor. Randomized human trials number zero. The antioxidant claim traces to a different 4-residue peptide in mice. No benefit has been measured in people.

What are Pinealon's claimed benefits, and where does each come from?

Pinealon is sold as a neuroprotective peptide. The claims are consistent across sellers: memory, focus, antioxidant defense, protection of brain cells, slower brain aging. None of those came from a trial in people.

Here is each claim next to the document it traces back to.

Marketed claimTraces back toWhat that source actually is
Switches genes on and offKhavinson et al., Molecules, 2020A mechanism review by the peptide's own lab. No patients.
Alzheimer's protectionThe title of that same 2020 reviewA proposed pathway, not a treatment result.
Antioxidant defenseJiang et al., Food & Function, 2021A mouse study of a different peptide, 4 residues long.
Sleep and pineal supportThe product nameNo study. Pinealon is not melatonin and not Epitalon.

The compound itself is simple. It is a tripeptide, 3 residues, molecular weight about 418 g/mol. The Pinealon complete guide covers the chemistry and the Saint Petersburg lab behind it.

The antioxidant claim belongs to a different peptide

This is the clearest mix-up in the category, and it is easy to see once you line up the letters.

Pinealon is EDR: Glu-Asp-Arg. Three amino acids.

The antioxidant paper people reach for studied DREL: Asp-Arg-Glu-Leu. 4 amino acids. It came out of Jiuzao, the solid by-product of Chinese liquor making. Jiang and colleagues fed it to mice and reported antioxidant activity through the Nrf2/Keap1 pathway.

Optimization of Jiuzao protein hydrolysis conditions and antioxidant activity in vivo of Jiuzao tetrapeptide Asp-Arg-Glu-Leu by elevating the Nrf2/Keap1-p38/PI3K-MafK signaling pathway.

Jiang, Zhang, Lin & Cheng, Food & Function, 2021

Same three letters, plus one more, in a different order, from a different source, tested in a different species. Shared amino acids are not shared evidence. A benefit measured for DREL in mice is not a benefit measured for Pinealon in anyone.

What the Khavinson paper actually says

The strongest Pinealon-specific document is a 2020 review in Molecules by Khavinson, Linkova, Kozhevnikova and Trofimova. It is one of the 3 papers PubMed returns for the term.

It argues that the EDR peptide can enter the cell nucleus, interact with DNA and histone proteins, and change the expression of genes tied to neuron survival. That is a model of how a benefit could happen. It is not a measurement of a benefit happening.

EDR peptide: possible mechanism of gene expression and protein synthesis regulation involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.

Khavinson, Linkova, Kozhevnikova & Trofimova, Molecules, 2020

Read the title again. The word is possible. The paper is about a proposed mechanism in a disease process, written by the group that developed the peptide and holds the interest in it. That does not make it wrong. It makes it a hypothesis awaiting an independent test, and that test has not been published.

Does Pinealon help sleep?

No study has looked. The idea comes from the name.

"Pinealon" sounds like the pineal gland, the gland that releases melatonin. The peptide most tied to that gland in this family is Epitalon, not Pinealon. The two came out of the same Saint Petersburg program, which is why they get blended together in forum posts and product copy.

Pinealon is not melatonin. It does not contain melatonin. We found no sleep endpoint, no polysomnography, and no circadian measurement attached to it in the PubMed record.

If a seller lists sleep as a Pinealon benefit, ask which of the 3 indexed papers measured it. The answer is none.

What has never been measured

The absence here is wide, and it is more useful to a buyer than any claim.

Regulatory status follows from that. Pinealon is not an approved drug in the United States. The FDA's section 503A sets out which bulk substances a compounding pharmacy may use, and an unapproved research peptide sits outside that path. The WADA 2026 Prohibited List does not name Pinealon, but its S0 category covers substances with no current approval by any health authority for human therapeutic use. Tested athletes should treat that as the governing clause. Our peptide legality page explains the research-chemical framing.

What you can check before you buy

You cannot verify a benefit that was never measured. You can verify the vial.

Pinealon runs roughly $35–$80 per 10 mg vial across the research market. For that price the one document that matters is a third-party certificate of analysis with a mass result near 418 g/mol and an HPLC purity figure tied to the lot number on your box.

Our guides on reading a certificate of analysis and how to compare sellers on documents cover what a real report looks like. Handling questions are in how to reconstitute peptides.

What to know now

What we're watching

Watch for product pages that cite the Nrf2/Keap1 antioxidant study as Pinealon evidence. That paper studied Asp-Arg-Glu-Leu, a 4-residue peptide from a liquor by-product, in mice. Pinealon is Glu-Asp-Arg, 3 residues. Also watch for citation counts that look large: if a page lists many references, check how many actually contain the word Pinealon.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pinealon have any human trials?

None that we can find indexed. PubMed lists 3 papers for the term across 2020-2026, and none is a randomized controlled trial in people. There is also no published human pharmacokinetic work, so it is unknown what happens to the peptide after administration.

Is Pinealon the same as Epitalon?

No. Both came from the same Saint Petersburg peptide program, which is why they are often grouped together, but they are different sequences. Pinealon is the tripeptide EDR. The pineal gland association that the name suggests belongs to Epitalon, and neither has randomized human trial data.

Is Pinealon an antioxidant?

That has not been shown for Pinealon. The study usually cited is Jiang et al. in Food and Function, 2021, which tested the tetrapeptide Asp-Arg-Glu-Leu in mice. It is 4 residues from a different source. Sharing amino acids with Pinealon does not transfer the result.

Is Pinealon legal to buy?

It is sold in the United States as a research chemical, not as an approved drug or a supplement. FDA section 503A governs which bulk substances compounding pharmacies may use, and an unapproved peptide is outside that route. Our peptide legality page covers the distinction.

Is Pinealon banned in sport?

The WADA 2026 Prohibited List does not name Pinealon specifically. Its S0 category covers substances with no current approval by any governmental health authority for human therapeutic use, which is how an unapproved research peptide would be read. Tested athletes should assume risk.

Why do vendor pages sound so confident?

Because mechanism language reads like evidence. A paper proposing that a peptide may regulate gene expression can be quoted as though it measured memory. The gap between the proposal and the measurement is where almost all Pinealon marketing lives.
