Every claim on the GHK-Cu benefits list traces back to something specific: a cream trial, a copper enzyme, a hydrogel dressing, or a mouse. Only one of those piles contains controlled human data, and it is the topical one. Injectable GHK-Cu has zero published human trials.

What are the benefits of GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is three amino acids bound to one copper(II) ion. The whole molecule weighs about 340 Da. It was first isolated in 1973 at UC San Francisco.

The benefit list on a product page mixes four kinds of evidence into one sentence. Here they are separated out, with the source each claim actually comes from.

Which benefits belong to the copper, not the peptide

This is the part marketing blurs. Some of the story is the tripeptide. Some of it is the metal it carries.

A peptide with no metal cofactor cannot do the cross-linking part at all. That is what separates GHK-Cu from plain GHK, and it is why the copper is in the name. We break the three linked steps down in the collagen mechanism page.

A 2020 review in Aging Pathobiology and Therapeutics is the usual citation for the aging angle, because plasma GHK falls with age: roughly 200 ng/mL at age 20 down to 80 ng/mL by age 60.

A decline is not evidence that replacing it does anything. No trial has tested that idea in people.

The skin benefits that have controlled human data

Topical GHK-Cu is the one place where the benefit claim has real backing. About 30 controlled studies have tested topical forms, spread across roughly 50 years of skin-care research.

The most cited human work ran 12 weeks. One study tested 71 women with sun-damaged skin. A 2002 poster by Leyden and colleagues reported on a copper peptide facial cream at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting, and that abstract is still doing a lot of the work in current marketing copy.

Two things about that record are worth holding onto. It is short. And it tested creams, at strengths from parts per million up to a few percent, not injections. Cream results say nothing about a reconstituted vial. The before-and-after page shows how far the photos drift from that.

Getting the molecule into skin is its own research question. A 2023 paper in Pharmaceutics measured GHK permeability in anti-aging topical formulations. A 2025 review in Molecules covered skin permeation and delivery strategies for GHK-Cu specifically, which exist because bare permeation is limited. Wound healing: the studies tested dressings

Wound repair is the second strongest benefit claim, and the recent work is materials science more than pharmacology.

A 2023 study in Acta Biomaterialia built a photo-crosslinkable hyaluronic acid hydrogel carrying GHK peptide nanofibers and tested it on wounds. A 2025 paper in Biomaterials Research described a food-derived tripeptide-copper self-healing hydrogel for infected wounds.

Both tested a device placed on a wound. Neither tested a peptide injected into a person. If the hydrogel is doing part of the work, the vial does not inherit the result.

The colitis and lung fibrosis benefits are mouse benefits

Two newer papers are why you now see GHK-Cu marketed for inflammation well beyond skin. Both are rodent studies.

These are interesting mechanism papers. They are not human evidence, and this site will not convert the amounts those animals received into anything a reader can use. There is no human trial of GHK-Cu for gut or lung disease to compare them against. The dosage page explains why only the topical side has numbers at all.

Which claimed benefits have no human evidence

Naming these is more useful than listing the rest again.

Rigorous human safety and efficacy data for most of these peptides remain scarce.

None of the above tells you what is in the container you buy. That is a documents question, not a literature question.

The gap that would change this page is a controlled human trial of GHK-Cu by a route other than topical. Nothing published fills it yet. Watch also for any human follow-up to the 2024 Redox Biology lung work or the 2025 colitis paper, since both currently stop at mice.

The strongest evidence is topical and cosmetic. Roughly 30 controlled studies tested creams, with the most cited human work running 12 weeks, including one study of 71 women with sun-damaged skin. Nothing has been shown for injected GHK-Cu in humans.

Does GHK-Cu increase collagen?

Cell studies reported more collagen-gene activity in fibroblasts, and copper is a cofactor for lysyl oxidase, the enzyme that cross-links collagen. Those are lab findings. Human cream studies measured skin appearance endpoints, not collagen directly.

Is injectable GHK-Cu better than topical?

Why is GHK-Cu marketed for gut and lung health now?

Two rodent papers. Frontiers in Pharmacology reported reduced colitis severity in mice via SIRT1/STAT3 in 2025. Redox Biology reported reduced lung inflammation and fibrosis in a silica model in 2024. Neither involved humans.

Does GHK-Cu regrow hair?

There is no controlled human trial supporting that. Dermal papilla cells respond in culture, and small uncontrolled reports looked at hair transplant graft survival. Call it early and plausible, not proven.

Does GHK-Cu absorb through skin on its own?

Only to a limited degree, which is why delivery research exists. A 2023 Pharmaceutics paper measured GHK permeability in topical formulations, and a 2025 Molecules review covered permeation and delivery strategies for GHK-Cu.
